I thought the penultimate would kill it,
But then,
The final song came along...
Strangers, parents, teachers,
All under the ginormus stage
My glossy wood guitar shined in the bright lights
The song had started
My heart was racing in my chest,
like I had run 700 miles
The drumbeat pulsed in the room, like a clock
I could hear the cheers,
The hard ground shaking because of people jumping
Up and Down
They fueled me like a car, sputtering for gas
The chorus faded out into thin air
It was time
The spotlight shined in my eyes
It was just me now to steal the show
The first note was high, and loud
It caught some by surprise as they looked startled
The distorted sound of the shining black amplifier
Cut through the air like a shuriken
Each note precise resounded in the air with a slight
ECHO
My mind heard nothing but itself
Despite the loud, shrill sound
As the last note was played
It seemed like minutes before…
Silence
Complete silence
Then sudden applause burst out
A rush of excitement filled me
A shot of adrenaline coursed through my veins
Like it was my own blood
I walked off the stage and the grin crept on my face
Slowly, but surely
High 5’s
Good Job’s
Smiles
The guitar in my hand felt light as a feather
I learned one thing that day, that song, that minute
I played with no fear of what others thought
I played with the courage of 1000 men inside me and...
I played Me
